Two and one-half gallons in a keg, 3 bombers. I'm trying to force carbonate a keg for the first time. I did 40+ PSI for about 36 hours. Right now it's super foamy. Maybe too much CO2. We'll see if it integrates over the next day or so. May have to start bleeding off some CO2.
The flavor (in the roughly 4 ounces doses I get from a foaming pint glass) is really good. Quite tart… really more sour than I thought I'd get from this approach. Makes me eager to try something else using the same Milk the Funk souring schedule.

Re: Photo taken on November 12, 2015 at 04:38PM

Playing around with IFTTT on iPhone. :)

Re: Batch 15-016 Steampunk II

Checked on fermentation. Transferred to bottling bucket, then filled a 1.5 gallon minikeg before adding priming sugar. It was about 4.75 gallons into the bucket. Added 2.6 ounces table sugar (based on Brew Friend calculator) after boiling briefly with 1/2 cup water in the microwave. Filled 3 1L swing-tops, 4 .5L swing-tops, 13 12-ouncers and 1 bomber.
Somehow my FG reading was 1.020, when I'd had two previous readings of 1.016. Something screwy about that.
The sample from the hydrometer jar was pretty good. Maybe a hint of sulphur. The minikeg is "lagering" in the chest freezer, with sugar or CO2 added at this point.

Re: Batch 15-007 American (Dark) Brown Ale

So, 6 months later: I've dumped most of this beer. It was far too dark and muddled for me, with a crazy bubbling, brown head. However, tasting it now, it's bitter, but smooth initially. There's a slightly medicinal quality to the nose. Not off-putting, but there if you look for it. It's stout dark, and really comes across like a Robust Porter or stout. The bitterness is pretty clean, and a good balance for the sweetness. It was way out of whack towards the bitter initially. It's actually fairly tasty, now. I'll never brew exactly this recipe again, but I'm certainly learning about the power of time to force change on a beer that may be too far off in a certain direction initially. A drinkable beer, now, which it certainly was not months ago.

Re: Novatel Wireless MiFi 5792

Loved finding this blog entry the other day. I purchased one of these back in May and use it as you described. I have eliminated the "smartphone" from my list of devices and instead have been using an ipod touch 5 for my pocketable handset. I use an MS Skype phone# w/ unlimited calling to US/Canada for $5.50/month to handle work/calls to businesses (from handset/tablet/laptop) and IM/Audio/Video calling via Apple (iMessage/FaceTime), Google (Hangouts), & Facebook (Messanger) for my personal contacts.

The only real con that I have experienced w/ this setup is a loss of turn-by-turn nav from my handset in the car. If I wasn't very happy w/ IOS, this con could easily be resolved. I'm hoping that the next iPod touch comes w/ a lone GPS chip as the form factor is just gorgeous. I get compliments using it all the time & questions until they realize that I still need to carry another device.

Anxiously waiting for someone to come out with a mifi wearable as you stated and looking forward to reading more from you on this site.

Re: “The Matrix” and Free Will

Note: this post really doesn't have anything to do with Sam Harris' talk, etc on Free Will. It's quite amazing to see the fine details of a loose tooth through the microscope, and it kinda makes you wonder how it's affected by our daily routine. Our teeth do change due to actions such as chewing food, brushing and flossing.

Re: Automator, Dropbox and Reqall

I’ll gear this review to two varieties of people: current Zune owners that are considering upgrading, and the wonderful looking to decide from a Zune along with an iPod. This started as essentially "dessert," where I would end a meal with a pear or apple or banana. But I have been allowing myself in mid-morning an apple and one again between lunch and dinner.
I kind of don't want to punish myself for having a bit of fruit... but it is not exactly in keeping with my resolution. I forbade any snacks...
Also, I found myself once this week snacking while preparing dinner... as if somehow that counted against dinner.
But last night, during our weekly game session, the gang brought Oreos and I didn't have any. So I felt pretty good about that.

Re: Book: Thermoylae: The Battle for the West

I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand.
